Wesley Church goes back to 1778 when Bishop Asbury visited Joshua Barwick and he converted, & a society formed in 1780, with the 1st building in 1833. The 2nd church building was built in 1872, and dedicated in 1873. It was 1 of 3 churches built by the Thawley family, the others being Thawley Chapel, Denton, MD and a church near Hickman, DE which is no longer in existence. The 2nd building burned in 1934 and replaced by the current structure the same year. The church did not transition to the UMC in the 1960's and later closed. The cemetery has around 500 graves, dating from the mid-1800's to the present day. The cemetery is now maintained by the Wesley ME Church Preservation Group, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
